Burke Jam was born in southern Montana, and has been performing and recording his folk based style since 1997. He pushes the envelope of traditional American folk music, where three chord songs are typical. Burke deconstructs and rebuilds this foundation with a very unique soundutilizing acoustic and electric guitars combined with samplers and other noise elements, he creates a moody and atmospheric landscape around his vocal style. This style is reminiscent of songs and ghosts of generations past. Burkes musical presence is harsh and uneasy, but at the same time soft and poetic. Listeners should not expect a traditional twang, but rather artistry and eloquence layered behind beautiful, simple guitar playing.
Burkes music is quiet and vast, reflecting the open space in which he was raised. Listeners might draw comparisons to artists like Damien Jurado, Songs:Ohia, and Wilcos more recent work. Live shows range from a full band presentation to stripped down solo acoustic sets. Burke has shared bills with such artists as Pedro the Lion, Storyhill, and Tim Reynolds.
He spent the fall of 2003 working on his new release Quiet:Openwhich he recorded with a full band. Quiet:Open was released in late February 2004. He will be touring in support of this release throughout the year.
